I've tried other digital scorekeepers and a few android apps. Either I just kept basic info (score for that hole) or just got yardage from the GPS. Actually tracking club or anything else was just two time consuming. I was looking at a few other watches but they lacked the score keeping capability.Having this all on the watch, you just press a button, get yardage, swipe to set club and lie (it auto suggests a club for you based on your profile) and hit (and you can also add penalties right there for those, well, bad shots. Then Repeat. It only took a few seconds each shot to do this and at the end you get complete stats as well as current score. By far the easiest device/app I've used. The website is a nice bonus, you can basically see your whole game over laid in google maps. I knocked 1 star off as it does have some room for improvements. 1. Add increased range in yardage selection for clubs 2. Let you go... Read more The manufacturer commented on this review( What's this?) Posted on Apr 16, 2012 12:51:07 PM PDT Matt (Forums Manager) says: Hi, Lee. We certainly appreciate the rating and the feedback. Let me comment on your suggestions. 1. Add increased range in yardage selection for clubs - We have heard this already and we agree. We intend to add more room both at the top and the bottom of the range. 2. Let you go back and edit scorecard if needed after the round is ended (made a few mistakes as it took a few rounds to get used to how it worked). - You can currently edit your scorecard at the end of your round on the device, before you "end" the workout. We've been asked to provide editing on the portal and we're considering that as well. 3. Expose more of the data via web, ie Avg distance per club (and let you use that info for your club profile) - We are looking at this for a future release. 4. Export scorecard (or someway to copy it better). Maybe just a CSV/Excel export of the scorecard and/or data. - We are looking at this for a future release. 5. Be able to adjust the screen timeout for "shake to wake" function. The screen turns off way to fast. - The shake-to-wake is primarily a battery-saving feature, so I doubt it will be made longer since it is currently okay just to check the time. 6. The phono plug is not attached and is a little rubber piece. I know I'm going to eventually loose it. - I have a trick that works great. Insert the plug, fat side in, in one of the wrist strap holes. That will keep it for you until you need it again. With the fat end in (close to your wrist) it can't slip out. 7. Bonus: How about an option to show the google sat view of the map? - We didn't do this mostly due to display size. We're looking at some other ways to improve this part of the experience. We are always eager to hear from owners. This is the most comprehensive and simple to use golf game tracker that I've ever tried. Others are a distraction more than a benefit, but MOTOACTV is largely unobtrusive, but is available when you want to look something up. After a few holes of use, it becomes apparent that Motorola put a lot of thought into the implementation of this device and its accompanying companion website.I usually advocate specialization when it comes to devices like this, because companies can rarely do a good job at products in more than one niche. MOTOACTV is a definite exception to this. It is so good at both golf game tracking and being a fitness tracker, that you can't even tell what their niche is. They do fitness tracking better than the companies who specialize in that, and golf tracking better than any device made specifically for that purpose. There are certainly areas that can be improved on, in this tracker. I agree with most of the items in the list of needed... I'm not a techie. My biggest concern was that this device would confuse & frustrate me, that it would be difficult to understand & use. Allow me to put that to rest. I don't know how Motorola made such a robust watch so small & simple to operate. It's easily the most all-inclusive sports 'watch' on the market. It takes multi-sport to a whole new level with the Golf Edition. If you're a business guy or a guy who can't miss a call, the phone app is a God send.I run, cycle & golf. This is the only device which allows me to track all of my activities, even on my treadmill. It offers much of the information a Polar or Garmin will provide w/o having to carry along a separate MP3 player. My Garmin beeps to alert me when to change pace, so I cannot listen to music when I use it. With the Motoactv - problem solved. My Polar is cheaply made, dated & requires a separate $44 device to upload my information. With Motoactv - problem solved. No point in repeating... Read more |
